#1 On heirs and spares… (Essay) ...Harry’s story is not the only one of its kind. Sibling conflict and family drama have been with us since, well, the beginning… The first pair of siblings to whom we are introduced in scripture, Cain
and Abel, seem to be complementary types....
#2 Beth Moore
Reflects on ‘Christian Celebrity Culture’ (News) Moore encouraged a younger audience to focus on spirituality and persevere during difficult times. Despite her fame as an author, Moore also reminded the audience that the spotlight is not the most important
aspect of Christianity. Even for well-known speakers....
#3 God’s chosen puppets: The bizarre Christian music album covers of decades past (Essay) The Christian music scene has had its ups and downs through the years. Sometimes those ups were fun in their own right – as anyone who was the right age at the right time to match the rhythm of their head with the rhythm of DC Talk’s belly can attest – but others were downright cringeworthy, as anyone who was du-du-down with the DC Talk can attest.
Occasionally, truly talented acts like Jars of Clay....
I’m a pediatric specialty therapist and a convert to the Catholic faith – I’m a
part-time seminarian – and while I remain faithful to my church I feel that it is time to speak out in favor of affirming the identities of LGBTQIA+ youth. My eyes started opening two years ago when I encountered suicidal LGBTQ youth from conservative Christian homes whose suicidal ideations occurred at higher rates than their non-religious/progressive Christian peers....
A poster of singer Demi Lovato has
been banned as it has caused offense to Christians. In the poster, Lovato is seen wearing a bondage outfit while lying on a bed that is shaped like a crucifix. According to a UK-based advertising watchdog.... |

Today I did something I thought I would never do. I officially changed my party affiliation to Democrat by voting in my first Democratic primary. When I did, I was asked, “Julie, how can you be a Catholic and do such a thing?” It’s for the
same reason 60 percent of the American Catholic Church, 76 percent of Hispanic Catholics/other Christians, and 95% percent of Black Catholics/other Christians are Democrats and never vote Republican....
The Catholic meditation and prayer app, Hallow, is offering users a chance to pray with the cast of the popular series The Chosen. The app’s offering includes having actor Jonathan Roumie, who plays the
role of Jesus Christ in the series, read aloud passages from both the Old and the New Testaments....
....Alongside the clear references to the relationship between learning and religion in Francis Bacon’s (1561-1626) work appeared other comments that have given his
interpreters pause. These comments implied that religion....
Immanuel Kant developed the concept of disinterested contemplation as necessary for beauty. In fact, this concept tends to be the most prevalent when thinking about the “high arts” though I would argue that it is, at least in
part, applicable to any art form. The phrase “disinterested” often confuses people who are not familiar with the concept. Why would someone want to contemplate what doesn’t interest them?
While the Arkansas Conference of the United
Methodist Church ultimately voted to allow 35 churches to officially disaffiliate from the UMC during its November special session, three of the churches seeking to do so were not given approval to do so. The churches are seeking to leave the denomination because of differences over social issues, especially concerning same-sex marriage and the ordination of LGBTQ+ people.... |
